ABOUT
DAPPER DAN
DRUSO
Dapper Dan’s Established • August 8, 1992
Dapper Dan’s wasn’t just opened. It was built — by a man who built everything from the ground up.
Before opening the original Dapper Dan’s in 1992, Dan Druso was already a Cleveland entrepreneur, building and opening four Mr. Hero locations in: Avon, Parmatown Mall, Great Northern Mall, North Olmsted. The now-legendary Italian Burger made its debut at the original Dapper Dan’s in 1992, but its roots go all the way back to those early Mr. Hero days.
The first Dapper Dan’s operated in what had been the Brass Rail — the location now known as The Brew Kettle — and it quickly became known for three things: Fresh-sliced deli subs, Cleveland sports, and the Progressive Happy Hour. Dapper Dan’s proudly became known as the Home of the Progressive Happy Hour — where drink prices increased every two hours.
Get there early. Stay late. Everyone knew the rules.
Traditions & Loyalty
Saturdays during baseball season meant bus trips to Cleveland Indians games — the famous “Dapper Dan’s Bleacher Bums.” Bleacher seats. Cold beer. Lifelong memories. Dan held Browns season tickets in the 80s and again from 2009–2025, Indians season tickets in the 90s, and Cleveland Force tickets in the 80s. He didn’t just support Cleveland sports — he lived them.
Vegas & The Rituals
Dan loved handicapping horses at Thistledown and in Las Vegas. He always stayed at The Orleans Hotel and Casino — and for the last 25 years, he only got his hair cut there. Gilbert, his longtime barber, was part of the tradition. Same hotel, Same barber. Same routine. Because Dan believed in loyalty.
The Quiet Escape
When he wasn’t behind the bar or at the track, he was at his cabin on Watabeag Lake in Canada — fishing, unwinding, beer drinking, and getting ready for football season.
The Most Important Part
Dan was proudest of being a loving father and grandfather. His children: Danny, Michelle, Nick, Chris and five grandchildren who carry his legacy forward.
The Rule That Mattered Most
Dapper Dan’s was open 365 days a year, holidays included. Because Dan believed that if someone didn’t have anywhere to go on Christmas or Thanksgiving, they should always have a place at his bar.
Lights on. Door open. Cold beer. That’s Dapper Dan’s.
